Heating

We’ll Keep Your Home Warm & Toasty

Most homeowners just know they want to stay warm throughout the cold months of winter, and Giesy Heating & Cooling, in Lancaster, OH, can help you do that! There are various methods for heating a home, but the systems we install and maintain most commonly include traditional furnaces and heat pumps. How do you know which you should choose? Let’s take a look.

Furnaces

Traditional gas- or oil-fueled central heating furnaces are one of the most common ways to heat a home. They deliver warmth throughout the entire structure that is generated from a central heat source, usually situated in a basement or attic. The heat is delivered via a series of ducts that run throughout the home.

Benefits of Central Heating Furnaces

  • They’re efficient
  • They can share ductwork with an AC if you choose a central model
  • They can quickly heat a space
  • They’re cost-effective

Heat Pumps

While they may be less well-known, heat pumps are actually a good choice for heating (and cooling) your home. They are essentially two-way air conditioners that offer year-round comfort and climate control in your home. Heat pumps rely on electricity to move heat rather than generating it like furnaces do. There are two types—air heat pumps and ground heat pumps.

Air Heat Pumps

These units are similar to central air systems and use air from the environment to keep your home warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Air heat pumps are more cost-effective to run than ground heat pumps.

Ground Heat Pumps

These units are also known as geothermal heat pumps. They are more common for areas that experience a moderate and consistent temperature throughout the year. In simplistic terms, they operate through a coil that is buried deep underground outdoors. While these systems are effective, they can more costly to install and run than air heat pumps.

No matter which heating system your home uses, Giesy Heating & Cooling can install it, maintain it, or service it. With over 45 years of experience behind us, we’ve seen and worked on most all makes, models, and types of heating units.

Maintenance

Did you know that routine maintenance does wonders for your HVAC system? It helps it run more efficiently and extends its useful lifespan.

What Is Maintenance?

When you schedule a routine maintenance appointment, we’ll give your system an overall inspection to ensure all components are in safe and good working order. Here’s the major items we’ll cover:

  • Vent system and air intakes: We’ll inspect these to ensure there are no blockages
  • Heat exchanger: We’ll look for signs of damage or corrosion
  • Electrical connections: We’ll check for loose connections or damaged wiring and tighten them or replace them as needed
  • Blower: We’ll examine and clean this and remove debris
  • Blower motor: We’ll ensure this is drawing the proper amount of electricity
  • All moving parts: We’ll check and lubricate all moving components
  • Belts: We’ll examine all belts for signs of cracks or other damage
  • Burner, pilot, thermocouple & flame: We’ll check these to ensure safe operation, gas pressure, and reduced carbon dioxide risk
  • Thermostat: We’ll check and calibrate your thermostat as needed
  • Air filter: We’ll check, clean, or replace your air filter as needed
  • Fuel lines: We’ll check these for possible leaks

When Should Maintenance Be Scheduled?

For optimal operation and safety, you should schedule a routine maintenance appointment for your furnace once each year before cold temperatures set in for your region.

Benefits of Preventive Maintenance

Routine maintenance offers several advantages, including the following:

  • Savings: Regular maintenance keeps your system running optimally and provides an opportunity to catch minor issues before they grow into expensive repairs.
  • Protects the warranty: Many furnace warranties are based upon an owner’s due diligence in maintaining their system properly. Routine maintenance helps ensure you remain compliant with the terms of your warranty so it’s valid if anything does go wrong with your system.
  • Reduces breakdowns: Your chances of experiencing an inconvenient malfunction and interruption of your home’s heat during the coldest winter night is greatly reduced with routine maintenance since potential issues will be uncovered and fixed before they can create significant problems.
  • Extended service life: While most furnaces will last an average of 15–20 years, provide regular inspection and routine maintenance can help your furnace last well beyond that timeframe.

Whole Home Humidifiers

Giesy Heating & Cooling offers whole home humidifiers that offer lasting comfort.

What Is a Whole House Humidifier?

A whole house humidifier is a unit that’s installed and connected directly to your home’s heating system. It adds water vapor to the air in your home that can impact your health and overall comfort.

Winter air is typically much drier than warm-season air. When you run your furnace, the air in your home dries out even further. Add a fireplace into the mix and the air you breath very likely causes your family to feel stuffy and have dry throats and chapped lips.

Signs of Very Dry Indoor Air

  • Family members with dry, itchy skin and eyes
  • Increased nosebleeds
  • Frequent sore, scratchy throats
  • Increased static electricity
  • Cracked, warped wooden floors, cabinets, or furniture
  • Cracking paint

The good news is that we can install a humidifier in your home that will increase your family’s comfort and safeguard your home and furnishings from the effects of extremely dry air. Give us a call today!
